What to do after downloading the Desktop .jar file?

Hi there,

I've just switched to Linux & knew about Master password from privacy.io. Upon downloading the file, I don't know what to do next. The FAQ section is actually a 404 page. So I'd like to ask for your help.

Thank you.

anonymoustag:help.masterpassword.app,2014-09-03:Comment/453596622018-05-27T04:49:36Z2018-05-27T04:49:36ZOK noobie here. What to do after downloading the Desktop .jar file?

If you've downloaded the Terminal application, just open the README.md file and follow instructions or read https://github.com/Lyndir/MasterPassword/blob/master/platform-indep...

If you've downloaded the Java desktop application, make sure you have Java installed and run the JAR file with Java. Either your desktop application can do that or you can do it via the command
java -jar [your masterpassword jar file]

Maarten Billemonttag:help.masterpassword.app,2014-09-03:Comment/453596622018-05-27T09:18:35Z2018-05-27T09:18:35ZOK noobie here. What to do after downloading the Desktop .jar file?

Thanks, the file I've downloaded is named masterpassword-gui.jar. Inside it there is no README.md. So I suppose I've got the Java desktop app. But then is it true that using Java is not recommended since it's prone to security breach? If most of my usage involves web sites, should I use the JS web version of your great app instead? Does this web version require internet connection every time?

anonymous
