Now I'm being asked for a master password all the time, but I never used one before the update. I can't uncheck the "Use Master Password" box in Preferences, because to do so I need a master password I don't have...

I'm told it has something to do with my profile. I've tried deleting that (having made a backup copy), deleting the application file and downloading and installing version 57.0.2, but the problem persists. Stuff still works if I click on "Cancel" at the prompt, but my automatic log-in passwords aren't appearing and I can't remember all of them.

How do I get out of this Catch-22 situation? I would prefer not to use a master password at all.

Tony Newmantag:help.masterpassword.app,2014-09-03:Comment/442986002017-12-15T16:22:59Z2017-12-15T16:23:01ZBeing asked for master password when I never used one before update.

Update to above: I've resolved my problem as described above by means of a workaround involving a second computer with the older Firefox version on it. I suspect that the new version has the master password preference checked by default on installation, which it shouldn't be, but that seems to me to be a fixable bug.

Tony Newman
